L-Arginine Feed Grade

L-Arginine is an essential amino acid that has significance in animal nutrition. It is often associated with the field of feed additives and is widely recognized as a crucial nutrient for livestock and poultry, particularly for young animals, birds, and fish.

Specifically, L-arginine serves as a precursor for the synthesis of proteins, nitric oxide, creatine, and polyamines, all of which are vital for growth, immune function, and reproductive performance. It is classified as essential for birds, fish, and strict carnivores, and is also considered important for mammalian neonates. In swine, L-arginine supplementation has been shown to support intestinal development and alleviate oxidative stress in early-weaned piglets. In poultry, it can improve pulmonary hemodynamics and gut function, particularly under challenging environmental conditions such as high-altitude rearing.

Research and application have shown that L-arginine supplementation supports growth performance by promoting muscle protein synthesis, enhances immune response through nitric oxide production, and improves intestinal health by increasing the absorptive surface area of the jejunum and ileum. It also plays a critical role in improving reproductive performance and increasing litter size in sows. For ruminants, supplemental L-arginine requires protection against degradation in the rumen to be as efficacious as in non-ruminant species.
