It exhibits strong antibacterial activity against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, and Klebsiella .

This product is designed to be incorporated into animal feed. Following oral administration, colistin is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, achieving high concentrations at the target site while remaining practically undetectable in plasma . This characteristic makes it particularly effective for treating enteric infections with minimal systemic exposure . It is widely used for the treatment and metaphylaxis of intestinal infections caused by non-invasive E. coli in pigs, cattle, and poultry .

Colistin Sulfate is available in various premix concentrations, including 10% and 20% formulations. Withdrawal periods vary by species and regional regulations—typically 7 days for pigs and chickens in China, while zero-day withdrawal is permitted in some jurisdictions . The product is contraindicated in horses, particularly foals, due to the risk of antimicrobial-associated colitis . It should not be used in laying hens during the egg production period .
